Are you interested in leadership and storytelling? Do you want to make a difference in your community? Then this camp is for you! Smart Journalism empowers you to become a citizen journalist, and focuses on the importance of your voice and opinion. Participants are encouraged to express themselves, connect with their community, and dig deep into contemporary topics.
Smart Journalism gives you the opportunity to learn how to skillfully use a smartphone to create audio and visual projects based on your curiosity, creativity, research, and understanding of your environment, together with other aspiring reporters from your generation.
Participants explore journalism ethics, interview techniques, audio and video recording with smartphones, and editing content. Our mission is to create a fun, safe, and learning space for you to critically explore the value of your voice and opinion. Share your perspective creating visually compelling video, and critically reflecting on what happens around you.
All participants must have given photo/video consent in order to participate in this camp. All gear is provided, including smartphones.
This camp is presented in collaboration with The Cinematheque, a charitable cultural organization that has offered media and film education programs for over 20 years. From engaging digital literacy workshops, to unique filmmaking programs, The Cinematheque aims to foster a passion for the art of film, as well as a critical understanding of the visual media in the world around us.
