This camp will teach court-sport athletes base weight lifting techniques within the Smith and Laycoe Varsity Training Centre. Each day will consist of two 90-minute sessions; one in the weight room and the other focusing on physical literacy. Participants will utilize cutting edge sport science tools, and will receive individual testing utilizing jump mats and traditional strength and power assessment tools. Each day will include specific warm up procedures followed by technical work for core strength and power movements. Participants will learn movement preparation procedures, paired with speed, agility, quickness and hand eye coordination and conditioning work. Specific emphasis will be given to the needs of court sport athletes, including knee, foot, and ankle care, along with shoulder care for volleyball athletes. Additional focus on proper jumping and landing techniques will give these athletes the physical tools to succeed on the court.
Location Details: This camp takes place in the Smith and Laycoe Varsity Training Centre located within the Doug Mitchell Thunderbird Arena, most easily accessible via the Thunderbird Boulevard entrance.
