Program provided in partnership with The Cinematheque
Use camera and green screen to do fun projects on media! Through hands-on activities, you will develop critical thinking skills related to fake news, social media, and advertising. Each day, key ideas and technical skills will be presented, and then immediately explored, promoting digital awareness and creativity.
This camp fosters a critical approach to Social Media and on-line contents through creativity. Participants explore Media Literacy topics through the creation of digital content. For example, they investigate fake news through the creation of fake news, and advertising through the creation of a commercial. Key ideas and technical skills are presented at the beginning of each day, and then immediately explored by creating digital content. Participants, working in groups, take part in fun hands-on activities and games, which ultimately provide unique insight into on-line communication strategies, and foster a critical approach to on-line content.
Topics include: safety on-line, taking photos and making videos, social media, selfies, photo editing, fake news, advertisement, and science on-line.
All participants must have given photo/video consent in order to participate in this camp.
This camp is presented in collaboration with The Cinematheque, a charitable cultural organization that has offered media and film education programs for over 20 years. From engaging digital literacy workshops, to unique filmmaking programs, The Cinematheque aims to foster a passion for the art of film, as well as a critical understanding of the visual media in the world around us.
