As a senior live-in monitor for Future Global Leaders, John supervises a team of live-in monitors and acts as a bridge between them and the program coordinators.
“I get to connect with students, but also make sure that the staff are challenging themselves and building confidence in terms of leadership,” he says. John really values the community created through Future Global Leaders, and calls the team atmosphere vibrant and energetic. “It’s like a home away from home, you really build a family here,” he says.
John attributes his success in this program to the virtue of adaptability. For new staff, he stresses just how great of an impact one can have in the senior monitor position. “It’s like a ripple effect,” he says. “You enhance the experience of your live-in monitors, and as a result of that, they enhance the experience of the students as well.”
Best memory as a senior live-in monitor for Future Global Leaders 2019:
“My co-senior and I got to host a graduation ceremony for our live in monitors. We made certificates, ordered food and celebrated our achievements and the challenges we’ve faced. Being able to see that connection from the very beginning, when we didn’t know each other, to the end when we were a tight-knit community was the biggest highlight of my experience.”
